solution to FC4 and FC5 users …

The installation process goes great, but when you reboot, it would hang while starting udev and might get warning messages like -
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:1c.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:1c.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:1c.1
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:1c.1
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:1c.2
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:1c.2
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 0 of device 0000:06:00.0
PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6:20000@d0000000 for 0000:01:00.0
PCI: Critical temperature reached (0C) , shutting down

It would only boot with acpi=off.
This is a problem with pcmia, to fix this you have to edit the /etc/pcmcia/config.opts file and change the line
–> include port 0×100-0×4ff, port 0×800-0×8ff, port 0xc00-0xcff
to
–>include port 0×100-0×4ff, port 0xc00-0xcff
removing the 0×800-0×8ff. This will allow you to boot with acpi enabled.
Add the following kernel flags to grub.conf pci=assign-busses pci=routeirq.

–> kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp ro root=LABEL=/1 rhgb quiet pci=assign-busses pci=routeirq

About the warning messages for pci, that's a problem that is waiting for some free time. But it should work fine even though u get warning messages, it boots perfectly and doesnot hang.

Hi Kiran

I just found more info in:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=186164

you will need a rescue CD I guess,

During boottime, select the fedora core line, press e. You will get to the kernel options press e again and add acpi=off. Go back and press b. You will be booting with the acpi turned off. Once inside linux you can edit the pcmcia configs, modify grub and reboot.

acpi=off works great thanks i have an hp duo that gave same errors acpi off fixed problem flawlessly

6. chandan - November 20, 2006

hello all,
Sorry fr not replying for so long. Well if u all are only trying to give acpi=off option everytime it boots its a headache … so please see the above article so that it can do it automatically. I know this has been a problem with HP duo laptops.

first boot with acpi=off option thn edit the specified config.opts file and reboot again .
it will do the job.

I am now planning to write more technical blogs soon if any other queries do post on.

thanx.

Hi ryo,
well u can find the config.opts file at /etc/pcmcia/config.opts in a fedora installation.
Hey, I suggest you go for a SUSE 10.1 or 10.2 installation everything is done automatically, no config required. Very user-friendly installation. Also, don’t forget to select some options to enable the ip3945 config.

Hey, nice to see some participation. Actually was busy in some training and have started blogging in other tech stuffs… now since i see some activity here I shall club all the blogs here and may be from now on i will blog more on this shelf with more stuff.
